Canada’s Angel - Celine Dion

Celine Dion, originally from Canada, is one of the most famous female artists of all time. Recording both English and French albums, her songs constantly hit the Top 40 charts. Millions of her albums sell out, on a regular basis, across world.

While Celine was headlining in Las Vegas, every show sold out. Fans were only able to purchase tickets if they did so months in advance. Celine’s live performances are pure magic, with lavish costumes and amazing choreography. Celine is definitely passionate about her career, and this passion comes through as she sings range of octaves more beautiful than a sunset.

Celine Dion was born in Charlemagne, Quebec, Canada, and was one of 14 children. Celine started singing at the age of 12. Her first song was written by her, and recorded by her mother, at home. Celine’s brother, sneakily, mailed the recording for Rene Angelil. After not hearing anything, for a while, her brother even took the step to call Angelil and insist on him listening to the recording of his sister.

Angelil was so impressed with the phone call, from Celine’s brother, and the recording, that he requested her presence. She performed, live, for Angelil, who was emotionally touched by the performance. He was so touched - in fact - that he vowed to help her start her career. (Not knowing, of course, how accomplished of a performer she would truly become.) Within 3 years Celine had produced two French albums; one of these songs actually made it on the local charts. Celine was the first Canadian to be presented with the French Gold record.

In order for Celine to move forward, with her career, she needed to undergo a makeover. During this time she attended school to learn English, in order to enter into the American Market. In 1988 Celine was on tour in Europe. During this time, her and Angelil fell in love, but feared the consequences of a relationship. Surprisingly, Celine’s fans supported her and nothing but joy came from her relationship with Angelil.

In 1991 Celine performed the theme song for Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast”, for which she won a Grammy and an Oscar for. In 1993 her album, “The Color of My Love” made record sales. Six years after their relationship began to flourish, Angelil and Celine were married (1994). Two years later, in 1996, she released another album called “Falling into You”. This album won her two more Grammy’s, in 1997, Album of the Year and Best Pop Album.

Five years later, in 1997, Celine won two more Grammys; Album of the Year and Best Pop Album. This is the same year that she performed “My Heart Will Go On” for the soundtrack of “Titanic”. This song, alone, shared - with the world - what a magical voice Celine truly has.

In 1999, Celine took a small break to nurse her husband back to health while he was being treated for cancer. In 2001, Celine and Angelil became the proud parents of a gorgeous son.

Canada, her home country, continued to support Celine throughout her entire career. When she was due to tour through her home province of Quebec, the tickets sold out within two hours! Celine continues to produce albums in both English and French, while also balancing her family life. She is a beloved, talented, woman who has melted the hearts of many.
