Registry Repairs and the Health of Your Computer
Back in the Windows 95/98 days, computer viruses and spyware were the biggest stumbling blocks to smooth computing. However, now there is a new computer enemy in town. Its name is registry corruption.
Registry corruption is a relatively new concern to computer owners. Probably the reason for this is two-fold. First, before virus and spyware cleaners were as advanced as they are today, we had all we could handle keeping our computers free of these parasites. Second, Windows 95 and 98 were tiny compared to Windows XP and Vista and so registry corruption just didn’t affect computers the same way it does today.
How and why do we concern ourselves with registry corruption and what will happen to our computers if we don’t? These are the topics we will talk about in this article.
There is Always Something Entering Our Registries
Any time we add a program or any type of software to a computer, entries are put in the registry. These entries are used to direct the operating system and aid it in carrying out its commands. However, when the program or software is removed or upgraded these entries become false pointers that harm the operating system’s efficiency. These types of entries are known as registry corruption.
Surfing the net adds corruption of its own to the registry. This happens because the temporary files that are constantly added and deleted need to place entries in the registry. These entries rarely get removed when the are no longer needed.
Viruses, spyware, adware and malware are programs that add entries to the registry as well. These entries still remain after the spyware and viruses are gone. This happens because although spyware and viruses add entries to the registry, when your spyware/virus cleaner removes the spyware and the viruses, it is incapable of removing the registry corruption they leave behind.
Though it may not seem like a serious problem at first, registry corruption can do serious harm to your computer operations and eventually your operating system. Corruption will jam up ordinary operations because the operating system will have to deal with thousands of entries telling the operation system to go to places that don’t exist. This will make your computer very slow and become prone to errors and crashes.
The Next Step
The problem is our software and drivers and everything else we deal with in today’s computing world are much, much larger than they were just a few years ago. So, it stands to reason that registry corruption is a much, much bigger concern than it was a few years ago, as well. So, a lot of corruption in an operating system will definitely cause a lot of problems!
Getting rid of registry corruption is as easy as having a good registry cleaner installed on your computer. To remain free of corruption, you should run the registry cleaner once a week or so and after your virus and or spyware cleaner has removed a virus or spyware. To run at peak efficiency, a computer must be free of spyware/viruses and registry corruption.
